What a council member does:
  • Draft and vote on local laws, ordinances, and policies.
  • Oversee the township’s budget, managing financial allocations for essential services.
  • Represent community concerns and actively engage with residents.
  • Guide urban planning, economic development, and public safety initiatives.
  • Adjudicates all traffic violations and other minor criminal offenses.
  • Hears civil cases where the amount in controversy does not exceed $12,000.
  • Sets bail and conducts preliminary hearings in misdemeanor and felony cases.
  • Oversees collection of fines, costs, restitution and collateral.
